Europe’s largest vehicle adaptation company opens new business premises in Sweden

“Autoadapt’s engineering capabilities dedicated to human needs is a success story for disabled individuals. We are witnessing the groth of a industrial sector vital to help people with impairments.” Those were the words spoken by Göte Bernhardsson, governor of the Swedish region of Västra Götaland, at the grand opening of Autoadapt’s newly-built Swedish head office on Tuesday, November 13.

Guests at the Grand Opening Ceremony participated in an interesting tour and presentation of activities in the new building. Participants were given the opportunity to see and test Autoadapt’s vehicle adaptation solutions for the elderly and disabled.

West Swedish Autoadapt has combined product development, production and sales in the new 108 000 square-feet (10 000 square-meter) facility which is now Lerum Municipality’s largest workplace with over 90 employees. Lerum is located about 20 kilometers from Gothenburg, Sweden’s second-largest city.

The company is in a powerful expansion phase and it is in the process of recruiting for several new positions”. Autoadapt's President, Mr Håkan Sandberg hopes that more people with disabilities will start working at the company.

“All of our customers are disabled and our facilities are built to be handicapped-accessible. At Autoadapt, a disability is considered a resource, not an obstacle,” says Håkan Sandberg.

During the past decade, Autoadapt has grown to be Europe’s largest supplier for “Adaptation of vehicles to the needs of the elderly and disabled”. Today, approximately 85% of production is exported to more than a hundred dealers in Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and the South Pacific.

“Autoadapt UK Ltd. has grown in a few years to become one of the largest mobility industry distributors in Great Britain and Northern Ireland as well as in Republic of Ireland. The new production facility and business premises in Sweden is benefitial for Autoadapt UK Ltd., then a modern production line will reduce lead- and delivery time even more for our customers,” explains Don Beattie, Marketing and Sales at Autoadapt UK Ltd in Birmingham.

The Autoadapt dealer network in Great Britain and NI, as well as in Rep. of Ireland are very well developed, with about 80 companies that carry out individual car adaptations and conversions.

The Grand Opening was one of the world’s largest industry meetings in its sector. More than a hundred foreign experts from over 30 countries and regions including China, Australia, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, The U.K., Russia, Europe and Scandinavia participated in two days’ seminars including an intense exchange of knowledge.

“Clearly, the demand for innovative assistive devices is huge. For those with special needs as well as specialists in these fields, Autoadapt are front runners with innovative and unique solutions for disabled to use a car in a lot easier way than today,” says one of the participants, Adrian Westbrook, Managing Director of Brook Miller Mobility in West Yorkshire.

In addition to various symposia, the Grand Opening featured an information show packed with a spectacular array of pictures, lights and sound featuring the unveiling of several new products.

“We called the Grand Opening ‘Journey to the Future’ because Autoadapt points the way to the future for vehicle adaptation for the elderly and those with some type of functional disability,” concludes Peter Wahlsten, Managing Director at Autoadapt UK Ltd.
