18th May 2015, Horw, Switzerland: Toradex, today announced the latest winners of its Embedded Design Challenge. The contest is one of the most revered embedded design contests globally and is aimed at giving students and technology-enthusiasts alike, a unique platform to showcase their innovations.

Selecting the top runners from several qualified and unique entries was challenging for the selection committee. After much deliberation, the deserving winner and runner-up were chosen and announced today via felicitation ceremonies held at Toradex’s headquarters in Horw for the winner and in São Paulo for the runner-up.

The selection criteria was based on the concept, implementation and presentation of the project. Josafat Piraquive’s project “Globo-Daq” that describes the design, implementation and evaluation of a hot air balloon data acquisition system (DAQ) was declared as the winning entry for this edition. He was presented with a certificate, and cash award of USD 20,000 in Horw, Switzerland by Mr. Stephan Dubach, CEO, Toradex AG. More details on Josafat’s final project submission can be found here.

Vinicius Bazan Pinto Fernandes’ entry “Wearable Interface for Teleoperation of Robot Arms (WITRA)” was the runner-up to Globo-Daq in the contest. Vinicius was presented with a certificate and a cash award of USD 10,000 in São Paulo, Brazil by Mr. Guilherme Fernandes, Director, Toradex Brasil. To commemorate the occasion, Mr. Dubach said, “The Toradex Challenge always has, and will continue to be, a platform where students innovate and allow their ideas to take shape. We received several interesting projects in this edition of the contest from around the globe. ‘Globo-Daq’ is an impressive project and we are very pleased with the high level of commitment and caliber showcased."

About the Embedded Design Challenge

The Embedded Design Challenge is a global initiative aimed at students and design enthusiasts. Participants register their ideas and the approved projects get a Toradex development kit. The projects are evaluated by a panel of judges and the winners are selected bi-annually (twice a year). The first prize winner is awarded prize money of USD 20,000 and the second prize winner gets USD 10,000.
