Disfellowshipped Seventh-day Adventists in Kenya

In many religious communities, hymns are a central part of the worship experience. Hymns are typically songs of praise and devotion that are sung to express worship and adoration for God. Singing hymns can be a way to connect with the divine, to express gratitude and love, and to deepen one's spiritual experience. However, if you are excommunicated from the Seventh-day Adventist Church and you continue to sing hymns from the Adventist hymnal during your own personal worship time, you are breaking the law and engaging in "secret activities," and you will be reported to the appropriate government authorities.

The North Rift Valley Field, which is a part of the West Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, recently published a letter explaining how a former member and employee had been officially disfellowshipped from the Seventh-day Adventist community. The letter was written on May 2, 2023, and explained how the former member/employee could no longer preach, teach, baptize, or even sing songs from the Seventh-day Adventist hymnal. The letter also stated how "government authorities" could be used to stop him from using the "SDA" name in his "secret activities."

Brothers and sisters, this threat to use the strong arm of the state to forbid disfellowshipped members from signing Adventist hymns is the same papal tactic that will be used against the faithful during the Mark of the Beast crisis. Tyranny will have no part in the work of God.

"The church appeals to the strong arm of civil power, and in this work, papists and Protestants unite. As the movement for Sunday enforcement becomes more bold and decided, the law will be invoked against commandment-keepers. They will be threatened with fines and imprisonment, and some will be offered positions of influence, and other rewards and advantages, as inducements to renounce their faith" (Great Controversy, p. 607).

"The 'image to the beast' represents that form of apostate Protestantism which will be developed when the Protestant churches shall seek the aid of the civil power for the enforcement of their dogmas" (Great Controversy, p. 445).
