BITS Pilani Registrar Retd Col Soumyabrata Chakraborty Chief Guest for Top Ranking School JMA Annual Day

Lead school in Pilani Smt Jamuna Mishra Academy JMA popularly called as school with 100% results was established in the year 2004 at Pilani which is considered as Oasis in the desert state of Rajasthan. Matter of Pride that alumni of JMA Pilani are pursuing higher education in various institutions which include Institutions of Eminence Birla Institute of Technology and Science BITS Pilani, AIIMS Bhatinda, Banasthali Vidyapith which is a Kohinoor among women's Universities in the world.

After two years of Pandemic, JMA Pilani celebrated the Annual Day to highlight the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with theme Glimpses of India on 19 Nov 2022 with usual pomp and gaiety. Chief Guest for the function was a highly acclaimed alumnus of BITS Pilani (Retd) Col Soumyabrata Chakraborty who is presently the Registrar of his Alma mater. After his schooling from Ramakrishna Mission Deogarh and Mysore where he got a State Rank, he joined BITS Pilani in 1984 and completed his BE(Hons) in Civil Engineering in 1988. Campus placement took him to Tata Steel TISCO Jamshedpur where he served as engineer for two years.

The lure of the uniform and love for the nation made him join the combat engineers of the Indian Armed Forces in 1993 and had a very long innings of over 27 years. While serving with the Army he participated in various combat and civil engineering activities during operations and peace. He had served in counter insurgency operational areas in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast and participated in Operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir, Operation Vijay (Kargil), Operation Parakram (Post Parliament Attack) and Operation Rhino (North East). During his army tenure, he was deputed to Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata as Chief Executive for Administration & Finance for two years 2015-2017. He had also been Project Director AWHO - Army Welfare Housing Organization for two years 2017 - 2019. Along with his tough army life, he also enrolled for MTech in Quality Management under BITS Pilani WILP Work Integrated Learning Programs and successfully completed the same. After retiring from the Army in 2019, he was the Registrar of IIT Palakkad for three years.

On his arrival, the chief guest inaugurated the art exhibition in the main building of the school and proceeded to the school playground where the buglers from the brass band played the welcome tune fanfare. After lamp lighting by the chief guest and other dignitaries, the onstage programs started with Saraswathi Vandana followed by the school orchestra presenting a wide variety of songs thus setting the mood for a great evening of celebrations. Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan in the welcome address presented credentials of the chief guest and shared the academic as well as sports achievements of the school and the celebrations of various days of national and international importance. Her speech highlighted the educational contribution and achievements of the school for the eighteen-year period 2004 -2022.

The cultural program included mesmerizing entire Ramayan Dance Drama, soul filling English song and thought-provoking mime apart from dazzling aerobics performed by the students. Captivating dances of India included Bihu, Bengali, Haryanvi, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Marathi, Goan and Bharata Natyam performed by the students. From the school management, President Dr Suman Mishra, Board Executive Member Dr Gautam Mishra and Mr Monil Sundesha Educational Society Secretary reiterated their commitment to the school for the larger task of nation building and service to the world at large. Chief Guest Col Soumyabrata Chakraborty (Retd) in his address to the students emphasized on punctuality, saving electricity and water, garbage and waste management, all round personality development, respect for parents, senior citizens, and love for the nation.

For best performance in Class X Board Examinations, Akanksha Saini, Diya Tanwar, Divyanshi, Ankit Awana and Hitesh were felicitated by the chief guest with laptops. For a spirited performance, in class X, Nikita Rungtala received a cycle sponsored by Sanjay Cycles Pilani. For best performance in Class 12 Board Examinations, Anjali, Varsha, Nirali and Laxmi received cash awards. For bringing laurels to the school in 66th District Taekwondo Championship 2022-23, Megha, Nidhi, Riya and Renu were felicitated. The loudest applause went to Raj Saini who brought Gold medal in 66th District Powerlifting Championship.

Performance awards for 2021 - 2022 recipients included Sushil Sharma, Sarita Bhatnagar, Kavita Tiwari, Ankita Mittal, Anuradha Soni, Sushma Sharma, Uma Pant, Rambha Kumari, Laxmi Jangid, Diksha Sharma, Shweta Gaur, Monika Meena, Manisha Verma, Seema Saxena, Anjali Bhatnagar, Madhavi Srivastava and Sarita Jangid, Preeti Gupta, Mahendra Kumar, Anil Swami, Harish Parihar, Anita Chahar, Rakesh, Vinay Sharma, Ganesh Sain, Surendra, Madan Singh, Suman, Vijay Singh, Mahendra Saini, Rakesh and Manish Sharma.

Sri Murarilal Sharma senior most in the school had a special felicitation for his services with an ever smiling face. For carrying out free medical camp every year at JMA Pilani starting from 2004, Dr Rajendra Prasad Pareek and Dr Anil Garssa were felicitated. Mrs Sushma Sharma anchored the Teaching and staff awards, Mrs Kavita Tiwari anchored the student awards, Mrs. Rambha Kumari proposed the vote of thanks and the entire cultural program was brilliantly anchored by Anishek from Class 11 and Devyani from Class 12.

When the celebrations ended with the national anthem, the students and parents of JMA left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of an institution which is a shining jewel in the crown among the schools at Pilani. It goes without saying that the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Annual Day celebrations at JMA Pilani is going to be the talk of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan in coming times.
