Veteran-Owned Small Business Never Wavered Serving Federal Government During Pandemic

The resilience of military veterans managing their own small business was on full display when the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on America. Never abandoning their post, Ken Jensen and Onyx Government Services weathered the storm and continued to achieve and grow - matching 16 years of consistent success as a public sector systems integrator.

Onyx is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) owned by Ken Jensen, an U.S. Army military intelligence veteran. Ken founded the business in 2006 to serve the federal technology market.

While other businesses folded their tent and surrendered to the pandemic tsunami and lockdown, Onyx stayed the course, providing uninterrupted client support. The company's role supporting the federal government's infrastructure was deemed "critical" to national security. Onyx stayed true to a sincere commitment to their community in need, veterans in the workforce, and national security.

As a veteran and small business owner, Ken Jensen has always been a big supporter of veteran hiring. Even during a difficult economic period like the last two years, Onyx Government Services was able to increase the percentage of veterans on the payroll, rising to 25% in 2021 - one quarter of fulltime staff - after reaching 14% in 2020.

Onyx makes its headquarters in Fairfax County, Va., home to over 2,000 veteran-owned firms, 8% of all county payroll businesses.

"I based my business in Fairfax County because of the close proximity to the Pentagon and federal government in Washington DC, as well as the strong support in the area for military veterans," said Jensen.
