Press release from: Jewish University of Colorado

Professor Ariel Rubin (Jewish University of Colorado)

Professor Ariel Rubin (Jewish University of Colorado)

The Jewish University of Colorado was "basically still operating IT-wise as it did in 2001" before the pandemic hit us, says Roman Strelkov, director of the dean's office and press secretary of the university. "The events overwhelmed us all the more violently, but we made a virtue out of necessity."

Within a few months, he said, the university had created a distance learning infrastructure so well received that as many as 80% or more of all degree programs will now be offered online in the future. "The response has been overwhelming," Strelkov said. "Basically, we had a complete fresh start, which even the most senior faculty agreed with."

The demand for places at the tuition-free university, which is sustained by the Messianic Jewish Fellowship, is so great that new lecturers are currently being recruited internationally. "The switch to 80% digital also liberates monetary resources that were tied up in rooms, equipment, cleaning services, etc. We have been able to downsize considerably in terms of space, while the university will have almost 4,000 students for the first time in the coming semester," Strelkov emphasizes.
