The president of the Central Council of Independent and Messianic Jews in Germany (ZMJ), Ben Feldman, warns the Russian president against further miscalculations and calls for immediate peace without conditions. At the same time, Feldman criticized the fact that far too little is being done to save Ukrainian Jews in the particularly embattled south of the country. "Neither our colleagues from the state supported Council of rabbinic Jews in Germany nor the Israeli government have heeded our call for help," Feldman said.

The quite large Jewish community in Germany faces tensions in the face of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Nearly 90% of the roughly 280,000 Jews in Germany have immigrated from the successor states of the Soviet Union into Western Europe's largest country since in 1990, Feldman explains. "We now have to be very careful that this insane war does not tear our communities and associations apart," he said. So far, however, he said, everyone is collectively bewildered by Russia's brutal war of aggression against the sovereign nation of Ukraine.

"Europe is small, densely populated, rich of millennia of history, and at its edge Mr. Putin is playing with the launch button of his nuclear weapons. Europe cannot and must not allow this to happen, even if it takes high risks. "Appeasement failed in 1933, 1938, 1939 etc., and who paid the highest price for this? The forefathers of our members! Putin obviously lives in a parallel world, surrounded by yes-men and cynical defeatists," explains President Feldman.

Poland and Germany are prepared for a wave of refugees. No one has to be afraid of being turned away at the border: an escape to the West, to Poland, Slovakia even to Germany is still possible at the moment. Especially now, when there is talk of sending Putin's murderous gangs of Chechen Muslims into Ukraine, there is only one reasonable option: If you are Jewish (and not a healthy man of military age), leave Ukraine. Immediately! When the Chechen gangs arrive it's too late!

Since 2021, the Central Council has also publicly advocated for the interests of the approximately 200,000 Jews in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland who do not belong to any traditional congregation.
