Trump's Refusal to Concede and the Republican Turn

Alan Minsky, Director of Progressive Democrats of America, and Author, Attorney, and Journalist Rich Procida will address the implications of the Administration’s and the Republican Party's refusal to concede the election. Trump’s continued refusal to concede has implications for our democracy and for Joe Biden’s ability to govern and respond rapidly to the health and economic crises he has inherited. It creates a political and constitutional crisis at a time when we are already facing both economic and public health crises due to Covid. The Government Services Administration’s acknowledgment that it is required by law to begin the process of transferring power does not mean that President Trump has conceded or will leave office voluntarily. Neither Trump nor the Republican Party has committed to a peaceful transfer of power.
We must take the statements of Administration officials and Republican leaders seriously. This is no joke. Trump is not a child having a temper tantrum. He is the leader of the most powerful nation in the world and he’s telling us what he plans to do. What is the proper response to these dangerous and wanton behaviors?
There will be an opportunity for members of the press to ask questions. Members of the community concerned about the confusion and disruption caused by the Administration’s refusal to concede are welcome. We will figure out how to respond to Trump’s attempts to overturn the results and the threat his actions pose to democracy, the health of American citizens, and the future of our nation.
