Product innovation: First presentation of a flexible hand skeleton model

This new skeleton model with built-in joints shows the range of motion of finger bones. The finger mechanism relies on the joints of the separate finger bones, which are also known as phalanges. In fact the articulations between the phalanges apply to the hinge joints. The phalanges consist of the following parts:

Proximal phalanges
This bone is also named as the first finger bone. It is also the longest phalange. The metacarpal bone and the proximal end of the joint form the metacarpophalangeal joints.

Intermediate phalanges
The middle phalange is also known as the second finger bone. Its end forms with the proximal phalange the so-called proximal interphalangeal joints (PIP). On its distal end two other joints are located (DIP).

Distal phalanges
The last bone presents the distal phalange and is also called the third finger bone. It is also the shortest bone. On its proximal end it is bigger and builds the distal interphalangeal joints with the intermediate phalange. Its distal end carries and shapes the nails.

With the pictured model you can move the joints mentioned above and the finger mechanism can be demonstrated realistically. Only the carpal bones are represented in one piece to make the model more stable.
