Nadrich & Cohen LLP is revising earlier statements made regarding the pending DePuy hip implant litigation.

A previous press release issued by the firm stated that both the ASR and Pinnacle hip systems had been recalled. The information contained in the release was not accurate and the firm would now like to clarify that only the DePuy ASR hips were subject to a recall.

DePuy Orthopedics, a division of Johnson & Johnson, made the decision to recall the all-metal ASR hips in 2010, after a number of patients complained of pain and other complications caused by the devices. An estimated 3,500 patients have since filed personal injury lawsuits seeking compensation for injuries caused by the defective metal hips.

In addition to the ASR litigation, DePuy is also facing an estimated 560 claims involving the Pinnacle hip system. The Pinnacle Acetabular Cup was first approved by the FDA in 2002 and served as the predecessor to the ASR hip implants. The Acetabular Cup features a similar metal-on-metal design.

Additional Pinnacle hip implants have been approved since 2002, including the Pinnacle CoMplete Acetabular Hip System, which was approved in June 2011. The CoMplete Acetabular hip implant features both ceramic and metal components. None of the devices issued under the Pinnacle line have been recalled.
