Bangalore Baptist Hospital Receives NABH and NABL Accreditations

Setting yet another benchmark in quality healthcare delivery and excellence in patient care, Bangalore Baptist Hospital (BBH) has been accredited by NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) and NABL (National Accreditation Board of Laboratories) for the delivery of highest quality of patient care from the Quality Council of India at an event held today at Bangalore Baptist Hospital. Dr. Girdhar J. Gyani, Secretary General, Quality Council of India presented the NABH certificate to Dr. Alexander Thomas, Director (CEO), BBH in the presence of Dr. Thuppil Venkatesh, Principal Advisor, Quality Council of India and the Management, staff and students of Bangalore Baptist Hospital. BBH is the only multi specialty mission hospital in South India to have received this National mark of excellence.

Bangalore Baptist Hospital aims at providing quality healthcare at affordable costs to the poor and marginalized patients irrespective of caste or creed. Being a charitable organization, BBH provides a significant amount of concessional treatment which is about 10% to 20% of its annual budget. In the last financial year, concessions of over Rs. 3 crore were given by the hospital. This is in addition to free medical care provided through palliative care and community health initiatives. BBH has also established a comprehensive teaching program in the hospital in affiliation with various educational bodies. The hospital provides Postgraduate Medical Education under the National Board of Examinations (DNB), the BSc program in nursing, Diploma programs in nursing, Allied health sciences, Pastoral care and other certificate programs. The Hospital had recently inaugurated its Cancer Centre with Radiotherapy facilities during the 38th anniversary celebrations. A state of the art Reproductive Medicine Unit is on the anvil which is being established for the benefit of the community facing issues related to infertility.

NABH is a constituent board of Quality Council of India, set up to establish and operate accreditation programme for healthcare organisations. The NABH standards provide a framework for quality assurance and quality enhancement, while focusing on patient safety and quality of care to award accreditation to any hospital. Accreditation from NABH is a public recognition for quality care and services rendered by the organization. Being an internationally certified accreditation program, it gives healthcare organizations an opportunity to benchmark with best practices globally and to provide high quality of care that matches international standards, excellent patient satisfaction, treatment out comes and continuity of care.

NABL is an autonomous body under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. NABL has been authorised as the sole accreditation body for Testing and Calibration laboratories and has been established with the objective to provide a scheme for third-party assessment of the quality and technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories. NABL provides laboratory accreditation services to laboratories that are performing tests / calibrations in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and ISO 15189:2007 for medical laboratories.

Speaking on the occasion, while presenting the NABH and NABL certificates Dr. Girdhar J. Gyani, Secretary General, Quality Council of India said “This accreditation is testimony to the fact that BBH Care Pathways are protocol driven, reflect global practices and ensure that patients consistently receive quality health care. The hospital was accredited by NABH & NABL after rigid and strict quality assessment and audit. We would like to congratulate the BBH team on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving this accreditation”. Dr. Suranjan Bhattacharjee, Director, CMC, Vellore, conveyed his greeting to BBH for their accomplishment.

Receiving the certificates, Dr. Alexander Thomas, Director (CEO), BBH, said “These coveted accreditations were achieved only through the continuous efforts of all staff of BBH to incorporate NABH & NABL standards and tools into the hospital system. Bangalore Baptist hospital is a multi specialty health care facility started by the International Mission Board (IMB), Southern Baptist Convention in 1973. The hospital is governed by Christian Medical College Vellore since 1989. The Administrative Committee manages the local administration.
