Amsterdam, Holland – April 21, 2007 -- Based on past year’s turnout and a drastic increase in Netherlands hotel bookings reported by EuroBookings.com, millions of people will pour into the streets of Amsterdam on April 30th to celebrate the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands.

“This event has become hugely popular for people all over the world. Right now there are only 8 hotels available of the 287 in the city of Amsterdam. Judging by our hotel bookings statistics, most people will come in 5-10 days before Queensday and during the first week of May,” says Marcel Stillekens, co-owner of EuroBookings.com.

Queensday, called Koninginnedag in Dutch, is a national holiday in the Netherlands to honor the birthday of the queen of the house of orange. The tradition began in 1909 to celebrate Queen Juliana who would visit two local towns and receive celebrations in her honor. Over the years has become a day of partying that draws travelers from all over the world.

The day itself brings a festive open air party in the streets of Amsterdam where locals set up roadside flea market shops and various folkloric performance take place throughout the city. On Queensday, nearly everyone can be seen wearing bright orange in honor of the House of Orange, the name of the current Dutch dynasty.

Statistics reveal that the event attracts between 500,000 to 2 million visitors to the city each year. “Queensday lasts only one day, but with so many fun-seeking travelers in the city at once, there is a buzz of energy that begins around the 20th and that extends into the first week of May,” Stillekens says.

With more than a week until Queensday, only 2% of Amsterdam hotels are available for booking. Stillekens urges travelers who haven’t yet made hotel reservations to do so quickly.
