"Rivalry on Ice," the popular hockey series between Harvard and Yale, announced that Turkish Airlines and UBS will be the two primary sponsors of this year’s highly-anticipated game, taking place at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Jan. 11. In addition, NY Rangers legend Mike Richter will make his return to the ice during the first intermission to participate in “The Last Game,” a special 12-minute game in conjunction with the United Nations to bring awareness to climate change.

UBS, the world's largest wealth manager, will be the presenting sponsor of “The Last Game.” In addition to Richter, "The Last Game" will feature other NHL legends including Slava Fetisov, Chris Ferraro, Peter Ferraro, and Rangers hero Stéphane Matteau, among others. Richter, the three-time Olympian and Hall of Famer, was recently been named as Ambassador for "Rivalry on Ice". Since retiring from professional hockey in 2003, Richter graduated from Yale and has made a substantial impact in the renewable energy industry, including co-founding Environmental Capital Partners and serving as the president as Brightcore Energy.

"As a global leader in sustainability, UBS is proud to be supporting an event that is designed to help raise awareness around the impact of climate change," said Bill Carroll, Eastern Division Director at UBS Global Wealth Management, Americas. "We wish the athletes from both universities the best of luck."

Turkish Airlines, a returning sponsor to the third iteration of the series, will offer two lucky fans the chance to win a trip to the destination of their choosing if they can score an open-net shot from the blue line. Turkish Airlines will also engage fans and alumni with a special pre-game hospitality event, and will have prominent branding on-site.

“Turkish Airlines is one of the best and most recognized airlines in the world, and we’re thrilled to align ourselves with two of the best and most recognizable universities in the world,” said Alp Ozaman, Regional Marketing Manager, New York at Turkish Airlines. “We look forward to take part for a third year in a row, and look forward to the great match.”

"When it comes to the history and heritage of college sports in America, it all begins with Harvard and Yale," said Ben Sturner, founder and CEO of Leverage Agency, who is the event producer and promoter for the event. "It's great to bring these two teams back to New York City to play in the most famous arena, and it's been an absolute pleasure working with the dedicated folks at Harvard, Yale and MSG to make it happen."

In the inaugural "Rivalry on Ice" game in 2014, Yale, the then defending National Champions, defeated Harvard in front of a capacity crowd, and the next matchup in 2016 resulted in another win by Yale. Yale will be looking for a three-peat on January 11, while Harvard will be looking to get their first win in the series.

Harvard-Yale Storied History
The first inter-collegiate sporting event in America took place in 1852, when oarsmen from Harvard and Yale met in New Hampshire to battle over two miles on the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee. Harvard claimed victory that day, but more importantly, a tradition had begun.

The rivalry entered its most celebrated arena in 1875 when football teams from Harvard and Yale met in front of 2,000 fans in New Haven, Conn. This marked the beginning of a gridiron rivalry that is now known simply as "The Game." However, Harvard and Yale also have an historic hockey rivalry that started in 1900 when they played their first game in New York City.

Since that first game, a 5-4 Bulldog victory, Harvard and Yale have gone on to become two of the most distinguished programs in college hockey. From ECAC Championships and NCAA Frozen Four appearances to producing Stanley Cup champions and Olympic gold medalists, the Crimson and Bulldogs have established proud legacies on the ice, befitting their world-renowned educational institutions.
