New Delhi, August 6, 2011 - Millions of people in India rely on subsidised kerosene to bring a flicker of light to into their homes. The black marketeers profit, while the Indian government pays the bills. Laying the grid for all the people is an expensive proposition, plagued by corruption and lack of will. The Jawaharlal Nehru Solar Mission does invisage this concept but not without some flaws, especially in the delivery. If more stress can be given to easy financing, rather than mere subsidies and tenders, it will benefit a lot more people.
