Women will take their strength and power to the football field with San Diego State University’s (SDSU) Coaching Staff at the Third Annual Women’s Football Academy benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, San Diego on Saturday, August 6.

San Diego, CA, August 03, 2011 -- Women will take their strength and power to the football field with San Diego State University’s (SDSU) Coaching Staff at the Third Annual Women’s Football Academy benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, San Diego on Saturday, August 6.

SDSU’s head football coach, Rocky Long, and his staff will teach women everything they need to know about the game of football. All participants will receive an exclusive Women’s Football Academy T-shirt, lunch and a gift bag full of great swag! The cost to participate is $40 will proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, San Diego.

WHEN: Saturday, August 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: Aztec Athletic Center, 5302 55th Street, San Diego, CA 92115

WHY: Susan G. Komen for the Cure saves lives by raising funds for free diagnostic mammograms, breast cancer treatment and breast health services for uninsured and underinsured women and their families in San Diego County.

Here are five lessons every woman needs to know to understand football…

#1 The team with the football is the offense. The team without the football is the defense.

#2 The offense wants to score. The defense wants to keep the offense from scoring.

#3 The offense can score two ways, touchdowns and field goals.

#4 Touchdowns are scored by crossing the goal line and field goals by kicking the ball through the goal posts at each end of the field.

#5 Referees are there to make sure players abide by the rules.

More than 15,000 participants are expected to take part in the Komen San Diego 15th Annual Race for the Cure. Breast Cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women and will affect nearly 50,000 men and women in San Diego this year. It's the leading cause of death among women ages 40-59.
