Press release from: The Doctorette

DURHAM, NC —

With a tip of the hat to the rising #MyBodyMyChoice movement, esteemed scientist and influencer, Dr. Cranley shared on her Instagram a racy photo that sparked heavy debate.

In the photo she wore a controversial shirt, with "It's my body. It's my choice.," inscribed in an outline of a woman's breasts.

The post garnered over 150 comments, many lauding her support of women's reproductive rights. However, not all comments were in support. One commenter wrote:

"Your wrong. It’s not your choice."

Another stated:

"Why must you turn america’s birthday into a political fest?"

To which another commenter asked in response:

"Is there not a better day to discuss our rights as citizens?"

At the center of the debate, was the long standing political conflict between pro-choice and pro-life advocates. However, given recent states passing new legislation making abortion more easily prosecutable in court, there has been a sharp rise in the discussion among American citizens.

When asked about the controversy, Dr. Cranley stated:

"Few influencers in my area have spoken out about this subject. I wanted to use my platform this July 4th to have a real discussion about reproductive rights, instead of posting just another red, white, and blue outfit at the beach.

"I mean it is Independence Day after all. And what's independence day without a conversation about our personal freedoms."

Dr. Cranley provided information in the post about where others could purchase the shirt, of which 100% of profits went towards NARAL Pro-Choice America.

Dr. Cranley is well known in the scientific community, but in recent years gained a massive following from her blog TheDoctorette.com and her Instagram account @TheDoctorette after several viral posts.
