Vote Will Oatis for 2011 Mississippi Governor

HATTIESBURG, MS (June 10, 2011) – Will Oatis, of Silver Creek, MS, has officially entered the race for governor of Mississippi in 2011.

Oatis will announce his run for governor on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 2:00PM in the Town Park of Silver Creek, MS. Town Park is located at the intersection of Highway 184/Southern Avenue and 2nd Street.

“As a lifelong Mississippian, I am committed to restoring the prominence of our beloved state,” Oatis said. “Our glory is overshadowed by a failing education system and a lagging economy. Now is the time for Mississippi to return to the days of prosperity. Now is the time for our children to thrive. Now is the time for strong leadership.”

As an awarded Military Officer, Oatis is continuing to serve Mississippi by devoting his efforts to his gubernatorial campaign. Oatis has demonstrated his community and education activism by awarding scholarships to ten students who have indicated a commitment to furthering their education and improving Mississippi. As a military Officer, Oatis has received over 20 awards, including Soldier of the Year in 1992 and 1993 (Battery and Battalion Levels- C Battery, 3rd Battalion/83rd Field Artillery), Saint Barbara, Patron Saint of Artillerymen Award, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Award, National Defense Service Medal Award, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terror Service Medal.

“Mississippi is a good state, but I believe we can be a great state. I want to tap into our character, ideas and resourcefulness to make Mississippi great again,” Oatis added.

About William Oatis
Born and raised in Silver Creek, Mississippi, Oatis earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from The University of Southern Mississippi. Shortly after September 11, 2001, Oatis was called to active military service. As a Military Officer, Oatis served worldwide, including three tours in Afghanistan.
