What: Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Executive Director/CEO, Alzheimer’s Association Long Island, will participate in the “Forum on Alzheimer’s Disease: An Update on Policy, Research and Innovative Care” presented by U.S. Congressman Steve Israel. Ms. Malack-Ragona will be joined by local elected officials and other company representatives to discuss the latest in government policy, research, patient care and advocacy.

The purpose of the forum is to collaborate with other organizations in seeking solutions on how to leverage research, accelerate the development of treatments and broaden access to innovative care in order to improve the quality of life for millions of Americans.

There are 5.4 million people in the U.S. who are afflicted with Alzheimer’s. Of that number, 60,000 are from Long Island. With the growing aging population, the number will surely increase. In 2010, Medicare and Medicaid spent $122 billion caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
