Amazon Leads Internet Marketing Race for Holiday
Press release from: Jamdo.com
(openPR) - December, 2005
Online book retailer, Amazon.com, is leading in the internet marketing race to be the holiday season’s top online retailer.
According to research done by Hitwise of behalf of Reuters, Wal-Mart and Apple are also in top positions in online sales.
Despite being only number 10 in traffic, Amazon is dominating the conversion of visitors. While the research shows that Amazon is among the top performers for actually converting visitors into sales, some online experts are attributing much of the success of Amazon to their online Affiliate marketing program.
“Amazon were the first major company to set up an Affiliate marketing program on the internet,” said Rob Wood, owner of jamdo.com – a website devoted to helping people make money from blogging and internet marketing. “It’s really no wonder that they are among the top online retailers this Christmas because they have one of the largest armies of Affiliate marketers on the internet – they are getting huge traffic from their Affiliates alone.”
The Amazon Affiliate marketing program was begun in 1996 to allow other websites to sell Amazon’s books and other products and receive a commission for it.
“Affiliates know that the Christmas holiday is the prime time of year to be earning big commissions from Amazon and any other company that runs an Affiliate program,” said Mr. Wood. “Just like in the offline world, sales soar during this time of year for ecommerce sites as well.”
According to Hitwise, several online companies are also underperforming for the holiday period with Target and Best Buy Corp being mentioned as having disappointing results.
Online companies are not expected to announce their official holiday season results until January.
