Innov-X Handheld XRF Solves Positive Material Identification Challenges

Innov-X Handheld XRF Solves Positive Material Identification Challenges

Visitors to Innov-X’s Booth 816 at NACE are seeing the latest innovations from the #1 Manufacturer of Hand-held XRF Analyzers for performing PMI on alloys-- and much more-- with point and shoot ease that saves time and gives you precise results on the spot.

Use handheld XRF Innov-X analyzers in demanding applications. Most industries face challenges today where Innov-X’s XRF breakthrough testing technology provides solutions. XRF testing covers inspection for Positive Material Identification (PMI) to Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC). Our exhibit will enable visitors to discover portable XRF in action performing exciting tests that span the broadest gamut of applications:

• Oil and Gas Production
• Petroleum Refining and Gas Processing
• Pipeline and Tank Maintenance and Repair
• Process Industries
• Coating and Plating
• Energy Generation
• Transportation
• On-Board Fuel and Oil Analysis
• Quality Monitoring

At the forefront of these and many other exciting discoveries is the technology of Innov-X leading the way. Come see the live and video demonstrations of the latest innovations—Handheld XRF Analyzers, High Power Mobile XRF Units, On-Board Oil Analyzers, Processing and Quality Control….and more.

Tougher PMI Testing with the sealed, internal PDA option – a heavy-duty, ultra-rugged handheld XRF configuration designed to withstand the harshest conditions.

• Sealed against moisture and dust
• Simple start up and operation
• Tough, field worthy X-ray tube technology with PDA-based design
• Full Bluetooth and wireless options available
• Ideal for in-service PMI

PMI is vital for safety management, and XRF tests can prevent Alloy mix-up problems. Valves, fasteners, piping, and other components must be carefully identified for grade and chemistry to ensure compatibility with specifications for the process system, as described in API 578 Recommended Practice "Material Verification Program”.

Confidently and quickly test pipes, valves, welds, etc. on-site to confirm alloy grade and chemistry using Innov-X hand-held XRF Analyzers. Grade ID’s for weld rods, fasteners, etc, are on the PDA in multiple libraries—common words, DiN, UNS, ASTM, etc. Test at processing temperatures to 400°C, Innov-X hand-held XRF’s will take the heat!

Need a Handheld XRF to Check Light Elements? Innov-X Systems introduces its patent-pending light element vacuum option to check Al, Si & Mg. This revolutionary internal vacuum option is easy to use. Just connect the vacuum-purge unit for 10 seconds, disconnect and begin testing. Internal vacuum is maintained for hours at a time.
• No Helium gas or compressed tanks to carry around
• No cumbersome vacuum pumps to wear or attach
• Smart software automatically optimizes test conditions
• Measure Mg, Si, Al in cast & wrought aluminum alloys
• Al, Si in red metals, titanium alloys, stainless, & high temps

Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) inspections can now be faster, as we’ll be demonstrating how the hand-held Alpha Series™ will detect trace levels of Cr in carbon steel. The field-proven Innov-X analyzer can read down to 0.02% Cr! For FAC inspection at nuclear and fossil fuel power plants, detect trace levels of Cr in carbon steel. Small amounts of Cr, Cu and Mo in carbon steel alloys significantly reduce the FAC rate. The field-proven Innov-X analyzer’s compact design enables testing of piping, corner welds, flanges, joints, etc. Its PDA enables test data transfer into Checkworks© software.

For analyzing coated or plated parts, Innov-X offers a new state-of-the-art hand-held analyzer that measures multilayer coating thickness and composition. This is ideal for performing “process” readings at a plating line, and for QC or lab analysis. A unique batch mode calculates the average thickness from a batch of small parts with one measurement. Its portability enables testing of large sample pieces, such as rolls of metal, at a factory or in the field. It can identify the substrate alloy as well as coating material. Use it for measuring the Au, Pd, or Ni plating on parts. Use it for testing Cu, Zn, Cd, Cr/Ni, Mo, and Sn plating on various substrates. The unit enables fast, easy alloy sorting and alloy identification for inventory/materials management.

Innov-X’s breakthrough hand-held design uses an x-ray tube in a compact unit with a PDA for unprecedented flexibility in a handheld analyzer. A rear-facing display makes the unit easy to read, supplementing the color PDA screen. The Innov-X System offers the performance, portability and versatility required for field applications.

The Innov-X handheld analyzer runs with up to 25-element software suites using fundamental parameters, spectral matching and/or empirically generated calibrations. Data is stored in binary format which is virtually impossible to alter. Wireless data transfer enables rapid information transfer from remote locations. Leading edge technology such as Bluetooth and others being developed will continue to “future-proof” Innov-X Handheld XRF Systems.

Detect challenging elements at significantly lower detection levels, using the high power mobile capabilities of the new X50 MobilLab ™ unit. It enables analysis of Cd, Sn, Ba, precious metals, and rare earths. Its greater sensitivity results from higher power levels of 50X typical handheld units, and opens up many challenging applications that formerly required full-sized laboratory instrumentation. It is well suited for in-field inspection and remote use, particularly for large samples of materials and parts, where one cannot wait days or weeks for lab analysis results.

Reduce testing time for oil analysis to minutes from days. The SEA-Mate ™ bench top XRF analyzer tests for on-board/on-station compliance with Marpol Annex VI and Sulphur Emission Control Area regulations for measuring a vessel’s operational fuels, lubes and additives. A joint venture of AP Moller-Maersk and Innov-X, it also tests for predictive failures by analyzing wear metals. It’s ideal for shipboard and land-based high power operations using diesel engines. (See: http://www.innov-x-sys.com/interior//products/oil)

The SEA-Mate™ measurements can optimize working fuels, oils and additives and yields predictive failure detection. Designed for non-technical operators, the SEA-Mate™ provides concentrations of 10 or more elements critical to large engine operation.
• Elemental analysis for large transportation and land-based power generation
• Optimization of oils, additives usage, and predictive maintenance
• Early detection of abnormal wear from metals such as Fe, V, Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb
• Enables control of oil & additive usage blending to precise alkalinity levels
• Analyzes S in fuels when bunkering
• Measures cat-fines content on-the-spot: Al & Si to 20ppm combined

No radioactive isotopes--The Innov-X Handheld XRF Analyzers use X-ray tube technology and a high resolution Si PiN diode detector eliminating radioactive isotopes, removing NRC regulation, costly disposal or travel restrictions.

About Innov-X Systems
Innov-X Systems is a vital new force in the x-ray fluorescence (XRF) industry. Their systems perform fast, accurate chemical analysis in seconds to identify, differentiate and quantify most materials by elemental composition. Founded in 2001, they pioneered handheld XRF instrumentation using a miniature x-ray tube rather than radioactive isotopes. Innov-X has rapidly expanded into many other XRF areas. These include the new SEA-Mate™ System for marine on-board fluids analysis; MobiLab X50, a portable XRF that in comparison to handheld units, delivers higher power and superior performance throughout the periodic table. Innov-X has also taken a leading position in custom XRF and online/automated XRF instrumentation.

With R&D and manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Innov-X has offices in Europe (the Netherlands), and Asia (Hong Kong). They maintain sales and service alliances in Canada, the Middle East, Latin America and worldwide. Service, installation and training is available in over 100 countries.
