The Michigan Lean Consortium announces the following programs:
• Training Event: How to Conduct a Lean Assessment: March 25, 2011; 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Noon at Macomb-Oakland University INCubator
The MLC is partnering with Oakland University to host a training workshop on best practices in lean assessments. Come to this active training workshop to share your knowledge on lean assessments and learn from Debra Levantrosser Setman’s experiences in conducting 75+ lean assessments. This is a great opportunity to learn the critical success factors in making lean assessments the most value-add they can be. By including the appropriate categories, assessments can be used as a coaching tool to improve our Michigan organizations. And to ensure we give this topic the holistic view it deserves, Jon Wetzel of Lean for Everyone will discuss how you can not only assess your worklife but also your life outside of work.
• Benchmarking Event: Lean in Manufacturing: April 13, 2011; 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Micron Manufacturing Company, Grand Rapids, MI

Micron Manufacturing received the prestigious Shingo Silver Medallion Award, the “Nobel Prize of Manufacturing”, in 2009 and will share its experiences with MLC members and guests at this exclusive event. Micron will offer access and insight into its culture at its Grand Rapids facility that will include a tour, Q/A with a leadership panel and a feedback session where participants will offer advice and ideas to Micron. • Training in Hoshin Planning:"Hands on Working Discussion, bring your Hoshin Problems"; May 17, 2011 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Steelcase Corporate Development Center, Caledonia (Grand Rapids area)
Since Hoshin Kanri first appeared in the late 1960s, it has been a system of management in which the annual policy set by a company is passed down through the organization and implemented across all departments and functions in this system. MLC is presenting a workshop on Hoshin Kanri (policy deployment) to a small number of attendees who would like to learn and practice this system for aligning your company.

• A Lean Simulation in Action: May 20, 2011 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Lean Learning Center, Novi, MI
Come experience a unique simulation experience lead by Jamie Flinchbaugh, co-founder of the Lean Learning Center in Novi. Simulation can assist in successfully addressing operational issues in a safe and practical yet realistic environment. Come and experience first-hand the simulation experience normally only offered as part of a private, custom-designed course from a world-renowned mentor in lean principles. • Benchmarking Event: Lean in Health Care: June 24, 2011 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, Michigan
According to the Detroit News from March 1, 2011, Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) “has adopted some of the best practices from manufacturing industries — particularly from the auto industry — to achieve remarkable gains in efficiency and turnaround times that have drawn national attention. For patients, the improvements mean faster diagnoses and treatment.” Dr. Richard Zarbo is chairman of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Henry Ford Health System, which includes five hospitals in Metro Detroit, and will lead the event by sharing his experiences and offering access and insight into the HFHS culture.
Others from HFHS will also share their experiences with MLC members and guests at this exclusive event which will include a tour, Q/A with a leadership panel and a feedback session where participants will offer advice and ideas to HFHS. Please join us for the exciting event!
