(openPR) - Federal spending websites give contractors a head start on agency opportunities.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Federal market intelligence provider fedXccel is reporting that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is forecasted to spend in the vicinity of $470 million on buying products and services from the private sector during 2007. Of this amount nearly $275 million is allocated for Biomedical related purchases, that include healthcare, biomaterials, and microarray technologies amongst other research tools and services.

A total of $61.5 million is allocated towards Information Technology projects and $136 million for other support related programs including administrative services, construction and security guard services amongst others.
“NIH is a very important customer for federal contractors providing cutting edge biomedical and healthcare products and services,” said netXccel chief Gaurav Pal. “The key is to identify potential procurements early and build relationships.”

The Small Business Office at Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) responsible for NIH forecasts, has set-aside $61 million for 8(a) firms, $84 million for Small Businesses, and $5M for SDVOSB. The purchase vehicles for the remaining $350 million are still to be announced.
