Inaugural Suitcase Party Benefits Spread the Word Nevada Literacy Programs

Las Vegas, NV (May 18, 2010) – More than 200 guests turned out for the First Annual Suitcase Party, which benefited Spread the Word Nevada’s children’s literacy programs, a non-profit organization based in Henderson, which serves underprivileged children through out Southern Nevada. Proceeds raised will be used to continue literacy services in the twenty elementary schools within the Clark County School District, which have been adopted by the organization. Once adopted, the students at each school receive monthly book distributions and literacy services.

The first fundraiser of its kind in Nevada, Spread the Word Nevada partnered with Fletcher Jones Imports, who hosted the event in their showroom and provided the Mercedes-Benz Maybach for transportation of the Grand Prize winner to Caesars Palace for the weekend get-away. Sponsors of the remaining resort packages included The Sands Foundation and Loews Lake Las Vegas. Tickets to the May 14 event were $50 per person, which entitled each guest to a raffle ticket for the chance of winning one of three resort packages.

Kris Hansen, the Grand Prize winner, won the raffle for a two-night stay at Caesars Palace, dinner for two at Rao’s, and tickets to a music performance by Cher. James and Karen Atkins were the winners of The Palazzo two-night stay resort package, which included dinner at Cut and tickets to see Jersey Boys. Carrie Nelson was the winner of the Loews Lake Las Vegas, two-night stay resort package which included a gondola ride on the lake and dinner for two at any Lake Las Vegas restaurant.

A jazz band from the Las Vegas Academy provided entertainment for the evening, while guests mingled with libation provided by Barefoot Wine & Bubbly and Lee’s Discount Liquor. Appetizers were provided by Piero’s Italian Cuisine. The event emcee was Chris “Ripley” Ewing, Program Director, X-107.5 Xtreme (KXTE-FM), of CBS Radio.
