(openPR) - Hartford, Connecticut – July 25, 2006 - Today, Webster Brooks, an administrator for the Hartford Public Schools and former City Council Executive Assistant, announced he will resign, to campaign as the Vice-Presidential running mate to Presidential aspirant Daniel Imperato, a Florida businessman. Brooks, who stepped into the bright lights of national politics in 1995 as the National Chairman of the Draft Colin Powell for President Committee, will be moving to Florida to work at the Imperato/Brooks headquarters in West Palm Beach. "Daniel Imperato is an extraordinary man that will serve this nation well. I am honored to be his running mate. We have started this campaign early, with a plan and a strategy that will thrust us into the thick of the race in 2008."
Since joining the Imperato 2008 campaign in April, Brooks has been instrumental in crafting the centrist Independent campaign's foreign policy agenda. He has written position papers calling for a new strategic alliance between China and the U.S., direct negotiations with Iran on the Iraqi conflict and nuclear power stalemate, and predicted the collapse of the peace process between Israel and the Palestinian Authority in his paper called 'Death of the Roadmap to Peace.' His domestic policy writings on 'Building a New Energy Economy' and his 'One America 2010 Immigration Plan,' have also stirred debate amongst bloggers and political activists.
With the presidential campaign heating up, Brooks decided to dedicate his full energy to the campaign, which recently called for the formation of a new third Party--Independent America. Brooks said "A significant section of the American people have clearly indicated that they want a viable alternative to the cesspool of partisan political warfare and incompetence in Washington. The times require us to go further than just running an independent presidential campaign. We need to permanently establish a new party that represent a growing electoral majority of independent voters, moderates and disaffected partisans of both parties. It is with a great deal of sadness and fond memories that I will be departing from Hartford to pursue this enterprise. But I'm genuinely animated by the challenge and the necessity of this campaign.
Brooks, began his political career as an Independent candidate in Washington, D.C. in 1990. After moving to Hartford he helped coordinate the 1994 election campaign of Democrat Party City Treasurer Denise Nappier, and later Republican Hartford City Councilwoman Veronica Airey Wilson. After chairing the draft effort of Colin Powell, Brooks sought the Republican nomination for the 1st Congressional District race against Barbara Kennelly in 1996, but withdrew after clashing publicly with the Republican State Party and the Bob Dole Presidential team for their lack of respect for the African-American and Hispanic community. Brooks has since run several political internet sites, and chaired the national Black think tank--Low-Country & Chesapeake Society. As a political figure and analyst, Brooks made numerous appearances on C-SPAN, CNN and other media outlets, in the United States and overseas.
Always a student of history, Brooks said his work with the John Rogers Historical Society in reviving the legacy of Connecticut's Black Governors was most rewarding. He also served on the board of black descendents of the Connecticut 29th Civil War Regiment that has secured $225,000 to erect a monument in New Haven to the valorous soldiers. Brooks commented that "In life, we try to leave this world a little better than we found it. I hope my service to the Hartford Public Schools and the City Council represented that belief. This is a great city that is on its way back." Brooks worked for the City of Hartford for 12 years.
