Daktronics Announces Fan-Free Design for Popular Indoor Video Displays

6 and 10 mm indoor video and 20 mm indoor ribbon board displays deliver a zero noise, low maintenance solution

BROOKINGS, S.D. –Daktronics is pleased to announce its leading indoor high-resolution video display products (6 mm and 10 mm) as well as its most popular indoor ribbon display product (20 mm) have transitioned to a fan-free, filter-free cabinet design to eliminate undesirable noise, reduce maintenance costs and conserve energy.

“While maintenance and energy costs are important to any display owner, fan noise is also a critical concern when installing an LED (light-emitting diode) display indoors,” explained Daktronics product manager Lane Munson. “In quiet retail environments, audible fan noise from the display cabinet is usually unacceptable. Arenas pose a similar challenge, especially with ribbon displays because they are usually mounted just a few feet above the heads of people sitting below them.”

The new product design, made possible by advancements in LED technology and Daktronics thermal management, eliminates the need for active cabinet ventilation. The result is a sealed cabinet without intake fans or external vents. This makes it perfectly suited for non-ventilated, in-wall installations as well as any locations requiring silent display operation.

Rigorously tested in the Daktronics product reliability lab, the design not only matched, but exceeded the operational lifetime of the traditional fan-ventilated cabinet designs.
