asphericon cooperates with High School

Jena, - June 2012: asphericon GmbH, a technological leader in the production of aspherical components, and the Adolf Reichwein Kooperative Gesamtschule (cooperative high school) have established an agreement for continuous collaboration over the coming years. Beginning in the 2012/2013 academic year, both partners will work together at various levels with the aim of improving cooperation, in particular helping students to choose their future careers.

Head of personnel at asphericon, Susann Kurschel, CEO Alexander W. Zschäbitz, and school principal Jürgen Haaß signed the mutual agreement at asphericon GmbH. “The aim of the collaboration is to create close links between the school and the working world,” explains Susann Kurschel. “We consider it extremely important that young people begin to think about their career paths at an early stage. The occupations within a medium-sized optics company are very diverse, and we hope that our joint activities will arouse interest among the students.”

When the company was selecting a suitable cooperation partner, asphericon was particularly impressed by the “Berufswahlfreundliche Schule” (career-choice-friendly school) seal of quality (Q-Siegel), which Adolf Reichwein KGS has held since January 20, 2012. “Our educational institution has set itself the aim of enriching teaching through cooperations and thus increasingly opening up the school to external parties,” says school principal Jürgen Haaß. “Our school considers itself part of the community and wants to help its students to successfully make the transition from school to further education and working life. The collaboration with asphericon offers suitable activities in order to give our students an insight into interesting professions within the optics industry and thus allay concerns about the economy.”

The first collaboration is planned for an applicant training course as early as July 2012, during which the personnel management at asphericon will show interested students ways of mastering job interviews. asphericon will also be offering short internships during the school vacation so students can gain an insight into day-to-day work at an optics manufacturer. In addition, company tours are also planned; these will provide information about the setup and structure within a company as well as contain purely informative aspects.

Over the coming years, asphericon intends to place particular importance on forming links with young junior staff. The number of apprenticeships in commercial and technical occupations is due to increase, thus laying the foundation for future company growth. Student internships and opportunities for completing final theses are also on offer as well as intensive support from the staff at asphericon GmbH.
