Imagination Menagerie -
A new featured exhibit that celebrates the youthful mind of animal creations and merges invited professional artists to bring them to artful fruition.

Lake Oswego, OR-See what dreams live in the imagination of local students, grades K-8 in this youth-centric featured exhibit titled, The Imagination Menagerie. The Imagination Menagerie is one of six exhibits filled with whimsy and wonder that will take on many shapes and sizes this June 21-23, 2024 at Lakewood Center and George Rogers Park.

Lakewood Center for the Arts's Youth Outreach coordinator, Angie Stambuk, spent a year collecting drawings of imaginary animals through their Youth Outreach projects. Once the drawings were collected, professional artists across the country began applying and "adopting" a child's drawing to recreate in their own medium.

From felt to paints, students and professional artists will be exploring creatures who are fuzzy, fierce, winged or horned. The exhibit proudly showcases the works of both emerging talents and established artists known for pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.

Festival Coordinator and Curator, Natalie Wood says the 2024 Festival of the Arts is focusing on the power of the imagination in all of us. "As we grapple with a creativity crisis, The Imagination Menagerie emerges as a beacon of hope, encouraging festival goers to reconnect with their imaginative essence. Through a diverse range of mediums, including painting, sculpture, music, and experiences, the Festival aims to reignite the spark of creativity that resides within each of us," Wood said.

Featured invited artists include:
Addie Boswell - An artist and writer specializing in murals and picture books. She believes in the imagination of children, the necessity of duct tape, and the power of art to connect communities and improve the world. https://www.addieboswell.com/

Erik Sandgren - Large scale artist associated with the culture of visual arts in the Northwest: mountains, trees and water, skies and people have inspired his feelings for location, myth and history. Probing the Northwest landscape with sensitivity to myth and origins, Sandgren's landscapes evoke the Northwest intertwine: community in the context of nature. https://www.eriksandgren.com

About Lakewood Center's Outreach Program: Building upon the mission of art education, The Lake Oswego festival created a Youth Outreach Program to educate budding artists beyond the walls of Lakewood Center.
