In-situ processes imply the entire work is done right at the contamination site. In-situ bioremediation processes effectively treat chlorinated solvents, dyes, hydrocarbons, polluted sites and heavy metals. The adoption of these bioremediation technologies & services is increasing due to their presented economic benefits. The process is also preferred for the low requirements of physical work. In-situ processes also eliminate spreading contaminants through pumping away to different treatment locations. It does not need excavation and therefore produces no disturbance in soil construction.

In addition, the time required for treating sub-surface pollution using an accelerated in-situ process is less than the pump and treatment process. Some of the most commonly deployed in-situ bioremediation technologies & services include bioaugmentation, microbe-assisted phytoremediation, bioslurping, bioventing, composting, and natural attenuation.

Given the advantages of the process, there has been an increasing adoption of in-situ technology globally. The applications of the process are expected to encourage the demand for in-situ bioremediation technology in the next few decades.
