Life Down Under: diversity and flexibility

A high school stay in Australia allows students to experience the Australian way of life first-hand by living with a host family. The special feature is that they can opt for one term (approx. three months), two terms, which corresponds to half a school year, three terms or a whole school year (four terms). At the exchange organization iE - international EXPERIENCE e. V., everyone knows that the young people will improve their English language skills and experience the culture intensively, no matter how long their stay lasts. They can choose the region in Australia themselves - whether on the coast, in the countryside, close to the breathtaking outback or in the city.

The Australian school system: huge choice of subjects

Australian high schools offer an excellent standard of teaching and highly qualified teachers. Compared to the German school system, the Australian high school corresponds to a comprehensive school that covers all school types (Hauptschule, Realschule and Gymnasium).

Students are placed in the classes of the Australian school system according to their age. Each high school has a personal tutor for international students who helps with subject selection and timetabling. The choice of courses varies, but all schools offer a wide range of subjects, with the young people from Germany deciding which subjects to take and how challenging they should be. This person is also responsible for all on-site support.

Active organization of the exchange year

The young people can and must actively organize their exchange year themselves:

* Sports and outdoor activities: surfing on the Gold or Sunshine Coast or playing rugby for the first time - Australia offers a wide range of opportunities for sporting activities.
* Cultural explorations: Admiring the Harbour Bridge and Opera House in Sydney, meeting kangaroos and Aboriginal people or learning English around a campfire in Tasmania: The young people have the choice.
* Participation in everyday school life: students can get involved in music, theater, art or other activities and make new friends.
* Discovering the environment: Whether rainforest, desert or coast - young people can explore Australia's breathtaking nature.
