Press release from: St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center

St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center, an organization with deep roots in the Metro Detroit area, is continuing to expand its service to the community, by expanding its Board of Trustees with four new members.

"We are delighted to welcome this group of highly dedicated and energetic leaders," says Diane Renaud, Executive Director/CEO of SVSF. "Leadership, as we know, is one of the key enablers of any organization. We are excited to welcome our new members and their efforts to help us not only continue to provide an exceptional level of quality services to the families of Southeastern Michigan, but also to help us strategically give greater support to the community."

Board chair Cynthia Chabie says the caliber of the new Trustees will help continue to set a high standard for the quality of service provided by SVSF.

"We are so very grateful for the participation of these extremely capable and, even more importantly, engaging advocates for the welfare of the students we ultimately serve. Our community is richer as a result of their involvement."

The new members joining the SVSF board are:
Joelle Maes
Joelle Maes, an account executive at Quicken Loans, may work professionally in Detroit, but the city is also where her heart lies -- one key reason she connected with SVSF. She was born in Detroit to a family that has deep roots in the community and she returned to the area after earning a degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee. Maes has an extensive business background, which includes corporate sales, teaching and community relations. Maes is looking forward to working with SVSF and building new relationships within the community.

William Moylan, Ph.D.
Moylan is an associate professor of construction management with Eastern Michigan University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in construction engineering from Lawrence Technological University, his master’s degree in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (majoring in project management and minoring in international business) and a doctorate in organization and management with a specialization in leadership from Capella University.

Karen Schankin
Schankin is the Global Service Desk Director at General Motors, based in Warren, MI, where she oversees the day-to- day operation of the Global IT Service Desk at the
automaker. She received a bachelor’s degree in business administration/management and Master’s of Science degree in information management and communication, both from Walsh College.

Drew Sharp
Sharp is a sports columnist with the Detroit Free Press and grew up in the shadow of the University of Detroit campus before attending and graduating from the University of Michigan. He has been with the Free Press since 1983.

About St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center
St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center began in 1844 as St. Vincent’s Academy in Detroit, a kindergarten for orphaned children. The organization evolved through the years and moved to Farmington Hills, establishing an adoption/foster care residence for children. In 2006, when policies and the economy changed, the Center closed its residential doors, but wanted to continue to fulfill its mission of serving at-risk children and adults. Identifying the significant need, the Center returned to Detroit and its roots of education, and now provides free, personalized educational support for children and adults. These programs are designed to help build self-sufficiency skills for academic and employment success, personal achievement and dignity. Visit http://www.svsfcenter.org to learn more.
