Symphonic double whammy for Bruckner's 200th birthday

With the final concert of the 30th Easter Academy and the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner's birth, the Bruckner Academy Orchestra offers a special treat for lovers of symphonic sound. To mark the double anniversary, the orchestra will perform Richard Wagner's Siegfried Idyll and Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 5 in B flat major with mentor and conductor Jordi Mora at the baton.

Maestro Jordi Mora conducts one of Richard Wagner's best-known orchestral works, the "Siegfried Idyll". The composer wrote it in 1870 for his wife Cosima to commemorate the birth of their first son Siegfried, called "Fidi". But of course it also refers to the third part of his "Ring", "Siegfried", whose motifs Wagner transfigures here in a new, idyllic way.

Another very personal work, albeit on a completely different scale, is the 5th Symphony by Anton Bruckner, who never heard it performed live himself. When it was performed for the first time in Graz in 1894, sixteen years after it was written, the composer was ill in bed. In the years of its composition, the composer had applied for a professorship at the University of Vienna due to financial difficulties, and this 5th Symphony reflects his claim to legitimacy in its masterful command of compositional skills.

The finale in particular, a magnificent synthesis of sonata form and fugue, gives this symphony an outstanding position in the symphonic literature. Bruckner called it his "contrapuntal masterpiece."

The Bruckner Academy Orchestra was founded in 1992 and since then, under the direction of Catalan conductor Jordi Mora, has performed all of Bruckner's symphonies as well as major works by Tchaikovsky, Franck, Sibelius, Shostakovich, Brahms, Strauss and Wagner. The Bruckner Academy Orchestra is characterized by the lively nature of its methodical orchestral work and the unbridled joy of making music.

The Bruckner Academy Orchestra is legally and financially supported by a registered non-profit organization of the same name.
Founded in 1992, the Bruckner Academy Orchestra brings together instrumentalists of various ages, mainly from Munich, but also from Germany and abroad (Holland, Spain, Italy, Argentina, USA), to work on large symphonic orchestral works under the direction of Jordi Mora and perform them in public at concerts in and around Munich.

The high standards of the programs and the excellent response have long since set this orchestra of dedicated amateurs, music students and professional musicians apart from the amateur level. What has remained is the enthusiasm and love of experimentation that make the Bruckner Academy Orchestra so attractive to musicians and audiences alike.

The orchestra's name reflects its aim of regularly rehearsing and performing Bruckner's symphonic works in particular. The success of the Easter Academy has also led to another meeting being held regularly in the fall since 1999, the "Autumn Academy".
