10 Years of TEAK: The Beat of Cardiff's Underground Music Scene

TEAK, the underground club night and creative community that has been a cornerstone of Cardiff's electronic music and cultural scene, is thrilled to announce its 10th anniversary. Marking a decade of events and community building, TEAK will celebrate this milestone with a series of three special events throughout 2024.

Founded in 2014 by David J Bull and James Smith, TEAK's DIY event origins began in the basement of Jacob's Market in Cardiff. In collaboration with Michael Cooling from Jacob's Market, TEAK transformed the basement of Jacob's Market into a thriving hub for underground electronic music and live gigs. Over the years, TEAK has hosted artists from across the globe including Motor City Drum Ensemble, Young Marco, Paramida and DJ Sprinkles. TEAK was also fortunate to host the late artists Andrew Weatherall and Jamie Tiller, two legendary artists and firm favourites of the founders.

Alongside its own roster of resident DJs and producers, TEAK has also been a platform for wider creative collaborations to help bridge club culture with other creative areas including work with the Welsh Ballroom Community and visual artist Purple Taiko.

TEAK's commitment to its DIY roots and innovative curation has garnered national acclaim, including a recent accolade from Time Out Magazine, naming it one of the UK's Top 25 Club Nights. As TEAK enters its tenth year, it remains dedicated to pushing Cardiff's electronic music scene into new territories whilst staying true to the early-day club scene ethos.

TEAK 10th Anniversary Event Details:

- First Event: A celebration at Paradise Garden on 9th March 2024, featuring all resident DJs from the past decade together on one line up for the first time. Free entry, starting at 5pm.
- Second Event: A night with Vladimir Ivkovic plus support, on 21st June 2024 at Jacob's Basement. Tickets available online.
- Third Event: A final October gathering at Jacob's Basement with an esteemed headline artist and date to be announced soon!

In collaboration with local artist Barni, a series of paintings will promote each event, capturing the essence of TEAK's decade-long journey. The first painting, titled 'Dancefloor Encounters' can currently be seen up at Paradise Garden on City Road, Cardiff.

A word from the co-founder:

"TEAK has been an integral part of Cardiff's music culture and identity over the last 10 years, representing left-field electronic music and underground club culture in our city. I'm really grateful for the consistent support that has helped TEAK maintain its identity without straying from its DIY origins for a whole decade now. 10 years is a real milestone for us, and we are stoked to celebrate with a series of special events, plus we have a few more exciting music plans lined up this year which we will share very soon!" said TEAK co-founder, David J Bull.
