Mural of Ade Cônnére and Riz Rollins seen form Yesler Street in Seattle

Monumental, Public Murals Unveiled Celebrating Seattle creative icons Ade Cônnére and Riz Rollins.
Large scale street murals at the corner of 12th and Yesler created by Jite Agbro and John Osgood celebrate the creative spirit of two Seattle creators.

Seattle, WA. On October 5, 2023, Tapestry Apartments - a pair of public artworks rose up at the crossroads of 12th and Yesler on the south-facing wall of the Tapestry Apartments. The collaborative work of Jite Agbro and John Osgood celebrating living Seattle icons Adé A Cônnére and Riz Rollins, is monumental in scale, and celebratory in tone. These street murals render two beloved local icons in sinuous line and bold color. Like their living, breathing subjects, the murals are sanctified personages that cannot be ignored.

Too often, we wait to remember the pillars of community until after they are dead and gone. Walls crumble, murals fade, neighborhoods are razed, but something must remain. The movement isn't over.

The intersection of 12th and Yesler is the meeting of the International District, the Central District, Capitol Hill, and First Hill. It is, in many ways, "the middle town". It is also an historic border zone, where the history of segregation is permanently inscribed. In the 1970s, a literal red line was painted here, a visible mark of the injustice that divided Seattle in the past.
