Source author of Kill the Irishman on Netflix pens true serial killer book

Rick Porrello, source book author of the motion picture Kill the Irishman, now on Netflix, recently released his newest title, There's More Bodies Out There: the true story of a Mafia associate and a police officer who emerge as suspected serial killers.
The book was released Nov. 15, 2022 in trade paperback and is available at or through most bookstores. A specially-discounted Kindle launch edition will be released Dec. 1, 2022.

Richard Henkel, A Pennsylvania mob associate, claims he murdered twenty-eight people. Porrello, the author and former police chief with Mafia roots, wanted details. So, he asked.

"At first, Henkel politely declined my request," Rick Porrello said. "Six months later, I persisted and sent him a page of questions based on three years of investigative research. He claimed there were significant inaccuracies about him, his crew members, and even some of his alleged victims. And he wanted to correct them. In our ten months of communication, Henkel was usually candid, but when it came to his associates, especially ex-police officer Gary Small, he was tight-lipped. And when I occasionally pushed too hard, he became angry. However, Henkel said he did not lie once to me."

Homicide Detective Bob Payne remembered Richard Henkel pausing to look out over a wooded area and saying, "There's more bodies out there."

There's More Bodies Out There is the true story of one of the country's most dangerous con artists, his police officer partner, the men and women who fell victim to his venom, and the lawmen who persevered to serve justice.

Author, drummer, and former police chief Rick Porrello has a knack for writing books that attract interest from filmmakers. Hollywood snapped up To Kill the Irishman-the War that Crippled the Mafia before it was even published, and turned it into the movie Kill the Irishman, starring Ray Stevenson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Christopher Walken, and Val Kilmer. A motion picture based on Superthief-A Master Burglar, the Mafia, and the Biggest Bank Burglary in U.S. History is in development. Both books have also generated documentaries.

Rick's first career was as a jazz drummer. At the age of 18, he got his first big break when he started touring internationally with Sammy Davis, Jr. Despite a skyrocketing music career, Rick decided to trade his sticks for a badge, which had been his dream since childhood. What followed was a 33-year career as a police officer in Greater Cleveland, with the last ten of those years as chief of police.

As an organized crime historian, Rick Porrello's perspective is an intriguing one. He began writing his first book during family research into the murders of his grandfather and three uncles, all of whom, he learned, were mob leaders killed in Prohibition-era violence. The Rise and Fall of the Cleveland Mafia quickly became a regional favorite and has endured as a backlist title.

Porrello is a "hybrid author" who is traditionally published (Barricade Books and Simon and Schuster's Pocketbooks), and self published through his micropress company, Next Hat Press, LLC. .

When he isn't hammering out his next book, co-authoring a screenplay, serving as a consulting or executive producer, or drumming with a number of bands, Porrello gives presentations on his books and on his writing and publishing journey.
