Press release from: WoolRoom

Denver, CO - Woolroom, producer of the highest quality wool bedding and mattress products, announced that it has received GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification for its bedding line. GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, which is backed up by independent verification of the entire textile supply chain.

An internationally recognized certification, GOTS requires that textile manufacturers adhere to very specific environmental criteria and social criteria. To carry the GOTS label of ”organic," a textile must contain at least 95% certified organic fibers (Woolroom fibers are 100% organic). Additionally, no harmful chemicals can be used in production, and worker safety and worker rights issues are a top priority. Having one common standard means textile manufacturers can export their fabrics with one universally accepted organic certification.
Woolroom Managing Director Chris Tattersall said, “Our team is thrilled to have received this prestigious certification. GOTS’ distinguished and stringent criteria is known throughout the world, and achieving this status is yet another achievement in Woolroom’s continued pursuit of clean, organic, and sustainable bedding.”

Tattersall is a proponent of improving the sleep environment with natural wool, and is passionate about providing sustainable bedding products of the highest quality. “As a consumer, we have an incredible amount of power with our purchase decisions,” says Tattersall. “The GOTS brand assures Woolroom purchasers that we are part of the green movement, and care deeply about the environment and our farmers.”

In achieving GOTS certification, Woolroom completed a number of extremely stringent examinations and inspections, including assessment of its processing and storage system, inspection of the chemical inputs (dyes and auxiliaries), inspection of the wastewater system, checks on social criteria, interviews with management, confidential interviews with workers, and many more.

Additionally, Woolroom has a fully licensed supply chain with each part having its own audit and license number. All are rigorously audited for company standards on ethical trading, environmental policy, social compliance policy, as well a full and detailed investigation into GHG’s (Greenhouse Gases). Key here is the ability to track and trace raw materials and ensure that the correct volumes of raw materials are being used for the output of finished products.
About Woolroom: Woolroom ethically sources its traceable wool from farms across the UK and produces the highest quality bedding and mattress products using years of industry experience and knowledge. At Woolroom, the small details don’t go unnoticed. With a fast delivery service, a string of 5-star reviews and the expert knowledge needed for a healthy, happy sleep, Woolroom delivers an improved sleep environment to their customers. With more people flocking to online stores to purchase bedding, consumers can try individual items with the 30 Night Sleep Trial, bedding sets with the 60 Night Sleep Trial and The Wooly Mattress and Topper with the 100 Night Sleep Trial when purchased with a Deluxe Wool Mattress Protector.

GOTS was founded by four well-reputed organisations: Organic Trade Association (OTA, USA), Internationaler Verband der Naturtextilwirtschaft (IVN, Germany), The Soil Association (UK) and Japan Organic Cotton Association (JOCA, Japan). Together, they hold extensive experience in promoting 'organic' and all had developed individual processing standards for organic textiles. GOTS came about from the desire to harmonize these standards so that they were internationally recognized.

Woolroom was founded in 2008 by Jo Dawson, a fourth generation of a Bradford wool merchant family. Backed by 150 years of sourcing the finest wool from around the world. Woolroom’s mission was to try and break the frustration surrounding the undervaluing of this incredible fibre. Farmers were paid less than the cost of shearing their sheep and over the generations, the wider consumer had forgotten the benefits that wool brings to the home. It was on this backdrop that Woolroom was founded.

Woolroom’s goal was to also break the stigma surrounding wool. It has commonly been viewed as a fibre that is more suitable for cooler climates, that it is difficult to care for and is itchy and scratchy to touch or wear. Woolroom’s aim was to re-educate the consumer on how wool’s amazing benefits could far outweigh any of the unfounded negatives associations with wool. Whilst developing and sourcing products from around the world, there was one key development at the core of its business - machine washable wool bedding. This natural and sustainable fibre could regulate temperature, be washed at home, and when encased in soft cotton, could be used in the bedroom environment.
