Berlin Heart engineer receives Joachim-Jungius-Award of Rostock University
In the context of his thesis, Dr. Arndt developed a fully automatic, physiological regulation of the blood flow for the currently available implantable assist device INCOR®. Thus, the flow of blood is able to adapt perfectly to the physiological stress of the patient.
The INCOR® system is implanted in patients suffering from severe heart failure. The pump, which is attached to the heart with an inflow and an outflow cannula, assists the patient's heart either short or long term with mechanical support in order to maintain the vital function of pumping blood through the body.
The developed system of Dr. Arndt has been tested successfully in the simulator and got patented. In vivo tests will follow next year.
As the work of Dr. Andreas Arndt captivates both, excellence and innovativeness, and moreover provides additional impact on science, his research work was awarded this summer by the University of Rostock with the Joachim-Jungius prize.

About the INCOR®

EXCOR® is currently under clinical investigation for pediatric use in USA. All other products are not FDA approved.
