Award winning photographer René van Bakel comes from the Netherlands, where he studied Photography. For many years he has been working for the Dutch Ministery of Defence and traveled to many theaters of war and hazardous zones of the world (Bosnia, Ruanda, Arabian Gulf region and many more…).
1996 he received the “International Press Award” for war reporters for his report in Srebrenica (Bosnia and Herzegowina). He has been working for many years as free lance photographer with publications in magazines all over the world, among them LifeStyle Magazine, Los Angeles Times, National Geographic, Der Stern, press agencies like APA, Reuters as well as for a multitude of public and private institutions.
This workshop offers an opportunity for a unique holiday as well as the possibility to share ones love for photography with other photo enthusiasts. Lake Trasimeno is situated in west of Umbria, directly at the Tuscan border. This part of Italy is world famous for its marvellous landscape and an abundance of history, art and culture.
Famous towns like Perugia, Cortona, Assisi, Gubbio and Montepulciano are just a stone´s throw away. In the middle of these inspiring surroundings the workshop will be held under the passionate tuition of star photographer René van Bakel.
For whom is this photo workshop?
For all those who want to improve their skills as photographers and make photos that really blow people away. In this class participants learn everything they need for a perfect photo. The technical basics will be explained in a simple, easily to be understood way, and participants will immediately apply the things the learned on excursions in the marvellous surroundings. Each day the pictures made will be discussed, giving every participant individual feedback.
Star photographer René van Bakel will give practical tips from his over twenty years treasure of experience without holding back anything. The use of light and color will become easy, not only when making portraits but as well with moving motives.
Thanks to René van Bakel´s individual tuition the class is suitable likewise for beginners and experienced photographers.
"La Rogaia" is an agriturism (farm and country house) in the midst of the hills overlooking Lago Trasimeno in Umbria. The guests reside in apartments and rooms which are created with a lot of love for fine details, decorated with sculptures and pictures by the artist Wolfgang Sandt. La Rogaia is surrounded by a spacious garden with pool. Everywhere you can find idyllic little places to sit down and enjoy the view over olive groves, vinyards, lavender fields, meadows and the rolling hills of Umbria.
At dinner hearty Umbrian and Tuscan dishes are served on a long table. Ingredients come from from La Rogaia or from other organic farms in the neighborhood. Every night "Mamma" Ornella, the cook enjoys her big show at dinner time, serving pasta in big bowls and other typical dishes prepared following traditional family recipes. Then the room fills with the scent of tasty food, her mediterranean temperant and lots of laughter.
For this workshop Nikon provides some cameras and objectives for free. Participants can test them without any obligation. Those who are actually considering to buy a new camera have the opportunity to purchase one of these cameras.

Villa La Rogaia is an agriturismo (a country house and farm) situated near Lago Trasimeno in Umbria, Italy. It offers holiday apartments and a variety of creative classes, such as painting, dancing, cooking, italian language and many others.
