Meet Baby Cloe: Surrogacy Q&A

The community of Chilliwack and surrounding areas have been following the story of gestational surrogate Kara, the intended father of the child she carried, Josep, and his newborn Cloe. A real-life story of empathy, compassion, and larger than life good deeds, Kara has shared her surrogacy journey through video and the Yellow Bird Birth blog.

Kara set out to become a gestational surrogate just over a year ago. She met hopeful father Josep, who lives in Spain, through Proud Fertility. The two single parents, with the help of Proud Fertility’s Managing Director Nathan Chan (also a single father by choice through surrogacy), formed a friendship and intend to stay in touch once Josep returns home to Spain with baby Cloe.

“It was completely worth it.” Says Kara when asked what she would share if she could only tell others one thing about her experience. “Everyone always tells me that they couldn’t be pregnant for someone else or undergo fertility treatments, but every moment of discomfort was worth it when the doctor placed baby Cloe into Josep’s arms. I just want people to know that surrogacy is a truly beautiful act and although there are ups and downs, it’s the most rewarding thing I have ever done for someone else.”
