Some 150 regional agri experts expected to gather for event

“Agriculture shining bright for Uganda” will be the theme of the keynote address by the Hon. Ssempijja Vincent Bamulangaki, Uganda’s Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, during the opening session of the upcoming Agribusiness Congress East Africa in Kampala on 29 November.

The organisers of the event have confirmed that the Minister will address some 150 agri experts that are expected to gather for the fourth edition of Agribusiness Congress East Africa hosted by The Grain Council of Uganda in Kampala with the official support from the National Agricultural Advisory Services and the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries of Uganda. It is the first time that this regional event is taking place in Uganda.

The opening session, which starts at 09h00 on Tuesday, 29 November, will also feature:

• Keynote address: “Paradigm shift” in agriculture
- Dr Sinare Y Sinare, Chairman, Agriculture Council Tanzania, Tanzania
• Eastern and Southern African market opportunities in agribusiness
- Argent Chuula, CEO, Alliance for Commodity Trade in Eastern and Southern Africa (ACTESA) - Specialized Agency of Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Zambia

Interviews with several of the Agribusiness Congress East Africa expert speakers and partners can be viewed on the event website.

Agribusiness Congress East Africa is a regional platform for discussions and knowledge sharing, to address those pertinent issues which are preventing the East African agricultural industry from truly flourishing as a global agribusiness hub.

The event enjoys wide support from the local and regional farming sector, including the Grain Council of Uganda (TGCU), National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), Uganda Seed Trade Association (USTA) and Agricona.

Well-known agri suppliers including Engsol, John Deere, Mascor, Tafe, Case, Chief Industries, Irrico, Rivulis and Toyota are event sponsors.

Agribusiness Congress East Africa will offer market access to more than 200 million people through Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and South Sudan. Agriculture accounts for almost 30% of GDP in East African countries while staple foods represent 75% of total agricultural products traded. Agriculture employs more than 60% of the population in the region.
