Press release from: Academy of Design at RCC Institute of Technology

A Diploma in Graphic Design and Interactive Media will be offered

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities has approved RCC Institute of Technology’s Graphic Design and Interactive Media program. The program will be delivered in-class at the Academy of Design’s centrally-located Davisville campus at 1835 Yonge Street in Toronto.

The Graphic Design and Interactive Media diploma, offered through RCC Institute of Technology’s Academy of Design will immediately begin enrolling for its first class in October 2011. This one year intensive program will prepare students with the skills to produce interactive projects from start to finish. The curriculum consists of graphic design; students learn visual brand building, elements of design, drawing and conceptual drawing. Students will also learn how to use industry standard software to produce interactive projects including websites, 3D development and audio/video production.

"This is a terrific program that reflects the exciting changes in interactive design at the Academy of Design" said Dr. Rick Davey, President of RCC Institute of Technology. "The internet has changed the way we absorb information, deliver content and speak to each other. Having the ability to design and develop in interactive media is an important skill to master and is in demand as a career."

Jean - Paul Amore, Chair of the Interactive Design programs at the Academy commented on Ministry approval: "The program reflects the rapid change experienced in the Graphic Design industry due to recent technological advances. Students will be prepared to enter the work force by faculty who are industry professionals in the field, and are committed to sharing their knowledge for the next generation of designers."

Students not only learn how to use industry software, they also learn how to manage a project, how to present their work to a client and how to collaborate in a team. Students will learn to market themselves by developing a professional portfolio, and effectively present their interactive projects in a clear and concise manner. They will have a strong knowledge of the industry including the types of careers that will be available to them in the new media industry.
