Previously Unseen Photos of The Beatles Revealed

After being hidden away for over 45 years, a rare collection of previously unpublished and unseen photographs of The Beatles are due to be revealed at an exhibition in London at the end of April. Taken by award winning photographer Paul Berriff, during their UK tour of 1963/64, these unique black and white images capture the band at both their most natural and most animated.

Recognised as one of the UK’s leading film documentary makers, Paul Berriff has won international critical acclaim for his varied work, resulting in over 17 awards including a British Academy Award (BAFTA).

Despite having moved into the world of cinematography, still photography has always been Paul’s passion. During his career he has photographed many other celebrated musicians, including The Rolling Stones, Queen, The Searchers, The Hollies and Gerry and the Pacemakers. He once spent a year photographing Prince Charles and has also worked with other notables, such as Baroness Thatcher and Sir Francis Chichester.

Paul has good memories of working with The Beatles; he says “They were great to be around, very funny. I built a good rapport with them, especially Paul McCartney”. Before capturing their performance on stage, Paul would also spend an hour or two backstage with the band. He recalls, “Sometimes they would pose for me but a lot of the pictures I took off the cuff, when they were just acting about”.

The exhibition showcasing these beautiful images will be on display at The Menier Gallery, London, between Wednesday 28th April and Saturday 1st May (midday close).

Following the exhibition opening, the full collection of 37 unseen photographs will be released for sale in a very limited edition run of only 49 each. They will be produced and signed by Paul Berriff and certified and authenticated by the Fine Arts Trade Guild. These collector’s artworks are true pieces of music history.

For more information and to see previews of the images, please visit the website.

Interviews with Paul Berriff can be arranged and preview images may also be available. Paul will be available at The Menier Gallery for the duration of the exhibition.
